Do speaker systems that incorporate Edge Motion audio technology sound different?

Similar to manufacturers of other true high-fidelity speaker systems, our goal is to produce full and natural sound throughout the frequency range on all kinds of music.  We believe we have achieved this goal and that the overall sound quality is generally much better than that produced by other embedded speaker systems built into display-based consumer electronics.

How good is the sound quality of Edge Motion speaker systems?

Our engineering team has developed speaker systems using Edge Motion™ audio technology that can be favorably compared with separate high-quality loudspeakers.  However, depending on the use and demands of each particular application, specific embedded systems will be designed with variations in certain performance parameters.

What is the frequency response of an Edge Motion speaker system and how loud can it play?

The answer to both of these questions will depend on the specific application and how the speaker system is implemented.  An Edge Motion speaker system can be designed to reproduce full, natural sound at high listening levels.  However, based on display size and the intended use, some applications will have less demanding requirements for how low and loud the speaker system plays.

Can you see the screen move or vibrate when the speaker system is playing music?

No.  One benefit of Edge Motion™ audio technology is how efficiently very small movement (or pressure) on the side translates to audible sound waves from the membrane.  We call the movement of this very light, low-mass radiating surface “micro-flexing”.  You cannot see the screen or the radiating surface move because the optically transparent material is moving an imperceptible distance at an extremely fast rate.  Although you can feel this movement by touching the membrane, the images on the display will actually look the same whether or not audio content is being played.

Is the membrane on the front of an Edge Motion-enabled display curved or distorted?

The amount of curve required is extremely small and does not impact the visual performance of the display.

Do Edge Motion speaker systems require more power than conventional speakers?

For comparable acoustic output, most Edge Motion™ speaker systems require power that is comparable to what is demanded by most quality speaker systems.  The specific characteristics of the amplifiers we design for use in our speaker systems are somewhat unique and are tailored to optimally drive the motors for each individual application.
